According to reports published in the Hindustan Times an aircraft belonging to SpiceJet, India's 2nd largest domestic airline by passenger share, hit a buffalo while taxing for take off from Surat bound for Delhi last Thursday evening.

Fortunately none of the 146 people on board the plane were hurt, but sadly the buffalo was killed.

The Boeing 737's left engine was severely damaged in the incident, and had to be grounded.

There are obvious concerns about the state of the perimeter fencing that such an incident should happen, and as a result SpiceJet have suspended their flights from Surat indefinitely.

Apparently there have been several incidents in the past involving stray animals at Indian airports.
