1st May 2015 saw changes to the way in which the UK government charges Air Passenger Duty.

The welcome news is that APD has been abolished completely for children under the age of 12, saving at least £13 per child.  Even better news is that from 1 May 2016 the exemption is being extended to children aged under 16.

APD is charged according to whether your flight goes more than 2000 miles from London, and doubles if you fly above economy class.
