Snow causes travel disruption in the USA

A further 3 feet of snow is forecast to fall on top of the existing layer of up to 5 feet thick in areas of the North eastern USA.

Apart from the obvious travel disruption to those parts affected by the snow, freezing temperatures elsewhere in the USA are causing problems.

There are reports of people unable to leave their homes, and of some being trapped in their cars for many hours before help arrives.

On Wednesday train services were suspended in New York State, and there have been many road closures.

Once the large volume of snow thaws, a real possibility of serious flooding exists with the saturated ground and drains unable to cope.

Let's hope things soon get back to normal for all those involved.

Horrible weather this morning!

Due to the strong winds and rain there are reports that travel disruption is likely on road and rail this morning.

Up to 10% of outbound flights from the major carriers are likely to be cancelled.

Seems though that the worst of the problems will be this morning, with things then quickly returning to normal.
