Why buy a hard side suitcase - they're heavy aren't they?
Well yes and no.
Over time all luggage has become significantly lighter than even a few years ago, and using revolutionary new materials, the difference between soft and hard side suitcases of a similar size has been decreasing - in some ranges, a hard side model may even be lighter!
Samsonite started using the incredibly lightweight Curv material in the first ultra light hard side suitcase range Cosmolite around 5 years ago. For many years Cosmolite was Samsonite's best selling range. Curv is now used in several more ranges with different styling, but all amazingly light for their size! The 75cm Cosmolite spinner only weighs 2.81Kg - incredible!
A hard side case is likely to last longer than buying a soft side as they are far more resistant to the perils of modern airline travel. They also help protect your belongings from being squashed. Conversely they generally do not have external pockets than can be easily accessed, and do not have the facility that is on some soft cases of being expandable to cater for when you want to bring back more with you than you took.
Hard side luggage is available in all sizes including EasyJet cabin approved, and comes with a choice of 2 or 4 wheels in several ranges.
Apart from Samsonite, hard side cases are also produced by Antler, American Tourister, Carlton, Eminent, Revaltion and Skyflite.
