With the world now apparently on heightened security alert, you'd have thought that most airline passengers would have got the message that it's probably not good idea to travel with firearms or other weapons in your luggage.
The American TSA authority regularly reports on what it finds during its regular inspections of passengers bags. This week's report says that they found 43 guns this week, 33 of which were loaded.
As well as guns they have found knives, ammunition and grenades, both real and dummy.
The regulations covering prohibited items that should not be carried on a plane also includes dummy firearms and ordnance. The authorities have in most cases no quick way of knowing if an item is the real thing, and will inevitably call on the professionals to identify them resulting in significant delays and inconvenience.
