Gatwick Airport continues its two and a half years of growth

Buy low price lightweight suitcase

London Gatwick Airport has announced that it handled an incredible 4.3 million passengers last month, a 6.4% increase over last July.  This continues Gatwick's 2.5 year continuous growth in passenger numbers handled by the Sussex airport.

Long haul routes spearheaded the growth up 7% on July 2014.  Understandably Gatwick is using its performance figures to try to influence the decision as to where the new London Airport runway should be built.

Both major London Airports show passenger growth last month

Buy Samsonite luggage at best price

London's two major airports have just published their statistics for March 2015 with both showing significant increases in the numbers of passengers handled.

Heathrow airport reports its busiest ever March with a total of 5.95 million passengers, and increase of 3.4% over March 2014. Part of the increase is attributed to an earlier Easter holiday than in 2014. Larger, fuller & quieter aircraft are driving part of the growth with passengers per aircraft rising 3.2% to 151.3.  To read more from Heathrow click here.

Gatwick Airport expects to reach the milestone of handling 40 million passengers in 2016, 10 years ahead of the predictions made in the January 2013 UK Aviation Forecast.  Last month Gatwick handled 2.96 million passengers, and increase of 9.2% over March 2014.  Understandably Gatwick is using the results to bolster its case for a second runway at the Sussex terminal. Record 2014 passenger Numbers at Gatwick Airport

Sale price lightweight Samsonite suitcases at Luggage UK

Nick Dunn, the CFO of London Gatwick Airport has reported a 7.6% increase in passenger numbers travelling through the airport's two terminals in 2014, giving a total for the year of 38.1 million.

Passenger numbers were up across almost all the categories by which they are measured, with the only notable decline being shown in cargo traffic handled.

Figures show that now around 20% of travellers use Gatwick for the start of their business  trips, and that the airport now serves 46 out of the top 50 European business destinations.

Not surprisingly Mr Dunn took  the opportunity to use the splendid results to push Gatwicks' case for having an additional runway in preference to close neighbour Heathrow.

Record passenger numbers through Gatwick Airport

Buy Lightweight Luggage at Sale Prices

London Gatwick Airport Ltd has reported impressive results for the 6 months ended 30 September 2014.

In line with market expectations, Gatwick reports that it had had the busiest 6 months in its history with passenger numbers  up 8% to a whopping 22.5 million. Growth is attributable to a combination of more planes, higher load factors and bigger aircraft.

The airport reports strong growth in business travel accounting for around 20% of passengers moving through the terminal.

The CEO, Stewart Wingate, claims that the airport has almost reached full capacity, and at certain times of the year is unable to meet demand.  He says that the need for a second runway at Gatwick is essential to cater for future growth.

What did Gatwick Airport look like in the 1970s?

What did Gatwick Airport look like in the 1970s?

We've discovered some pictures taken in the middle of that decade giving a feel for the airport.

Most evident is the lack of security compared to today - terrorism was not perceived as such a threat then, and the public were allowed on top of many terminal buildings and were almost able to touch the aircraft.

Overnight baggage reclaim delays at Gatwick Airport

Buy sale price luggage with fast UK delivery

Horrible news this morning for travellers flying in to Gatwick Airport's South Terminal.

According to reports passengers arriving overnight were faced with potential delays of several hours in being able to reclaim their luggage.  It appears as though the delays were caused by there being insufficient staff available to provide the normal service.

It is reported that those travelling with certain airlines were advised to leave the airport without their luggage, with the airlines arranging to have their bags delivered to them at home. Understandably it is reported that many passengers were less than happy.

This morning Gatwick Airport have tweeted on the situation:

'Baggage operations are now returning to normal at the airport. We apologise to any passengers affected by baggage delays overnight.'

Let's hope things quickly get back to normal.
