The UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) includes on its website a very helpful page giving passengers information on their rights regarding flight delays and cancellations that they experience.
They explain what you should do at the time of the problem, how you can claim from your airline, and what you should do if your claim is rejected.
Further advice is given covering being bumped from a flight, your booking being downgraded and in the event of missed connections.
