Growth in Travel & Tourism to outstrip global growth

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTCC) predicts that during 2015 the Travel & Tourism sector across 184 countries will grow by 3.7% in value and increase employment in the sector by 2.6%.

The 3.7% growth will outstrip the 2.9% growth rate in the global economy that is forecast for this year.

Forecasts show that the USA and China will retain the top 2 spots for Travel & Tourism economies, with Germany overtaking japan to take 3rd position.

Highest growth at 6.9% is expected in South Asia, but Europe and Latin America are predicted to be at the bottom of the league tables with growth of only 2.4%.

The Budget Airlines continue to grow

The low cost airlines that more and more of us use these days have just reported how busy they were last month.

Ryanair report that for January 2015 they carried 30% more passengers than in 2014, and that on an annual basis they carried 8% more to an annualised total of 87.8 million.

easyJet should zero growth on their January figures, but their annualised total increased by 6.3% to 65.3 million.

Are you one of the 1.1 billion?

Wow! 

According to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, over 1.1 billion tourists travelled abroad in 2014 - an increase of 4.7% over 2013.

For 2015, UNWTO predicts that international tourism will grow between 3% and 4%.

The strongest growth was seen in the Americas at 7%, with Asia and the Pacific following at 5%.  Europe experienced a more modest increase of 4%.

Europe was the most visited region in the world with an increase of 22 million arrivals in 2014 to give a total for the year of 588 million visitors.
