Ryanair agrees to sell stake in Aer Lingus

The directors of 'Europe's favourite airline' ‪#‎Ryanair‬, have voted at a board meeting to accept the offer from ‪#‎BritishAirways‬ owner IAG group to buy Ryanair's 29.8% holding in Irish airline Aer Lingus.

This now paves the way, subject to any competition considerations, for IAG to take full control of ‪#‎AerLingus‬

CAA gets tough with airlines over compensation

The UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced details of enforcement action against 3 major airlines as a result of their failure to implement the CAA's requests to change their policies in respect of supporting passengers during disruption including the payment of compensation for delays.

The airlines at fault are Aer Lingus, Jet2 and Wizz Air.

The CAA has undertaken a 6 month review of the policies of all the airlines and has already resulted in many carriers changing their procedures giving millions of passengers improved support under consumer law.

Areas concerning the CAA that resulted in the enforcement action include not consistently paying compensation for delays, imposing a limit of less than 6 years for considering claims, and not providing passengers with sufficient information regarding their rights in the event of delays.

Although not yet subject to enforcement action the CAA is concerned about Ryanair's approach to assessing claims from passengers affected by delays caused by technical faults.

Aer Lingus produces good 2014 results

Aer Lingus, the Irish National Airline has announced improved results for 2014 over 2013.

Revenues increased by an impressive 9.2% year on year to give a 17.8% increase in operating profit before exceptional items.

Total passenger numbers carried by the airline and including Aer Lingus Regional passed 11 million for the first time.

Revenue er passenger increased by 1.5%, and its cargo revenue by 6.2%.

The Company's Board states that it is willing to accept the terms of the offer made for the business by British Airways owner IAG.

Aer Lingus rejects BA owner's takeover bid

The International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) has reported that it has recently made an offer to buy Irish airline Aer Lingus.

IAG's press release says that Aer Lingus has rejected the offer.

IAG the owner of British Airways also controls Iberia the Spanish airline and Vueling a low cost carrier.

Aer Lingus is based in Dublin and operates a fleet of 47 Airbus aircraft carrying over 10.6 million passengers a year.  It is the 3rd largest operator at London's Heathrow airport.

Major shareholders in Aer LIngus are Ryanair and the Irish Government, both of whom would have had to approve the deal.

Malaysian Airlines Appoints New CEO Designate

Struggling carrier Malaysian Airlines has appointed a new Chief Executive designate to help turn its fortunes around.

Hit by two successive disasters, the loss of flight MH370 heading to China and the shooting down of flight MH17 over the Ukraine, the national carrier of Malaysia has been struggling against falling passenger numbers.

As part of the financial recovery plan, the company will be delisted from the Malaysian Stock Exchange, and Mr Mueller, currently Aer Lingus CEO being appointed to lead the airline's recovery from early 2015.
