British Airways reduces maximum size of second cabin bag

British Airways has announced a reduction in the maximum size of the second 'personal' cabin bag that it will allow on its flights from 18 August 2015.

While the dimensions of the primary cabin bag remain constant at 56x45x25cm, the additional bag's maximum dimensions will be reduced from 45x36x20cm to 40x30x15cm.

The personal bag will continue to need to be placed under the seat in front of you, while the you will need to place the main bag in the overhead locker yourself.

Ryanair agrees to sell stake in Aer Lingus

The directors of 'Europe's favourite airline' ‪#‎Ryanair‬, have voted at a board meeting to accept the offer from ‪#‎BritishAirways‬ owner IAG group to buy Ryanair's 29.8% holding in Irish airline Aer Lingus.

This now paves the way, subject to any competition considerations, for IAG to take full control of ‪#‎AerLingus‬

Leading European Airlines meet to agree a new strategy

The Chief Executives of Europe's five largest airline groups have met in Brussels in response to the new EU Transport Commissioner's consultation on a new EU aviation strategy.

CEO's from Airfrance/KLM, easyJet, International Aviation Group (BA and others), Ryanair & Lufthansa agreed today to work together to develop a strategy to support growth and jobs across Europe, strengthen the aviation sector and give Europe's passengers more choice and lower fares.

British Airways forecasts a busy Easter

British Airways anticipates carrying almost 700,000 passengers over the forthcoming Easter holiday.

The airline expects Monday 6 April to be its busiest day, with 142,000 people set to fly with it.

Sunday April 12 is expected to be the busiest for return journeys with 135,000 passengers booked to fly.

Top destinations this Easter are to the USA with New York, Miami and Los Angeles leading the way.  Other popular destinations include Tel Aviv, Boston, Hong Kong, cape Town & Dubai.

For short haul travellers, Edinburgh is the most popular, followed by Barcelona, Amsterdam, Glasgow & Rome.

Top half-term holiday destinations with British Airways

British Airways expects more than 1.5 million passengers to fly with it over this month's half-term holidays as we seek an escape from the February freeze and go in search of sunshine.

The busiest days are Friday 13th for outbound, and Sunday February 22nd for the return with over 120,000 passengers travelling with BA on these days.

Qatar Airways Buys into British Airways IAG Group

Qatar Airways has announced that it has bought a 9.99% stake in the shares of International Consolidated Airlines group SA (IAG), the owner of British Airways and Iberia.

Qatar Airways says that having recently joined the oneworld alliance, the stake in IAG further enhances its operational and commercial ties.

The company states that it does not intend to increase its stake in IAG in the short term, but does not rule it out in the future.

Aer Lingus rejects BA owner's takeover bid

The International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) has reported that it has recently made an offer to buy Irish airline Aer Lingus.

IAG's press release says that Aer Lingus has rejected the offer.

IAG the owner of British Airways also controls Iberia the Spanish airline and Vueling a low cost carrier.

Aer Lingus is based in Dublin and operates a fleet of 47 Airbus aircraft carrying over 10.6 million passengers a year.  It is the 3rd largest operator at London's Heathrow airport.

Major shareholders in Aer LIngus are Ryanair and the Irish Government, both of whom would have had to approve the deal.

British Airways reports strong 3rd quarter results

The company that owns British Airways as well as Iberia and Vueling, has reported third quarter operating profits up 210m Euros (30%) compared to the corresponding quarter of 2013 before exceptional items.

International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) said that performance was bolstered by increased passenger capacity as well as reduced fuel costs achieved through the introduction of newer and more efficient aircraft to the fleet.

BA was responsible for the bulk of the profit growth, but both Iberia and Vueling have shown significant growth.
