London Gatwick Airport has announced that it handled an incredible 4.3 million passengers last month, a 6.4% increase over last July.  This continues Gatwick's 2.5 year continuous growth in passenger numbers handled by the Sussex airport.

Long haul routes spearheaded the growth up 7% on July 2014.  Understandably Gatwick is using its performance figures to try to influence the decision as to where the new London Airport runway should be built.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTCC) predicts that during 2015 the Travel & Tourism sector across 184 countries will grow by 3.7% in value and increase employment in the sector by 2.6%.

The 3.7% growth will outstrip the 2.9% growth rate in the global economy that is forecast for this year.

Forecasts show that the USA and China will retain the top 2 spots for Travel & Tourism economies, with Germany overtaking japan to take 3rd position.

Highest growth at 6.9% is expected in South Asia, but Europe and Latin America are predicted to be at the bottom of the league tables with growth of only 2.4%.

Nick Dunn, the CFO of London Gatwick Airport has reported a 7.6% increase in passenger numbers travelling through the airport's two terminals in 2014, giving a total for the year of 38.1 million.

Passenger numbers were up across almost all the categories by which they are measured, with the only notable decline being shown in cargo traffic handled.

Figures show that now around 20% of travellers use Gatwick for the start of their business  trips, and that the airport now serves 46 out of the top 50 European business destinations.

Not surprisingly Mr Dunn took  the opportunity to use the splendid results to push Gatwicks' case for having an additional runway in preference to close neighbour Heathrow.

London Gatwick Airport Ltd has reported impressive results for the 6 months ended 30 September 2014.

In line with market expectations, Gatwick reports that it had had the busiest 6 months in its history with passenger numbers  up 8% to a whopping 22.5 million. Growth is attributable to a combination of more planes, higher load factors and bigger aircraft.

The airport reports strong growth in business travel accounting for around 20% of passengers moving through the terminal.

The CEO, Stewart Wingate, claims that the airport has almost reached full capacity, and at certain times of the year is unable to meet demand.  He says that the need for a second runway at Gatwick is essential to cater for future growth.
